Department Friends Arthur and Isadora Dellheim Pass Away

Dellheims

Isadora (Issy) Dellheim passed away at the age of 93 on August 5, 2024, and, less than two months later, her husband Arthur Dellheim passed away at the age of 97 on September 27, 2024.  They had been married for 73 years and had three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Arthur and Issy had been staunch friends of the department since the 1980’s.  For many years, they supported our archaeological fieldwork in Syria and Iraq as well as the Johns Hopkins archaeological program, including student travel assistance.  They regularly attended department lectures and functions, and they often hosted mini-soirees at their house where the results of our archaeological fieldwork could be discussed in a relaxed setting.  Issy and Arthur’s commitment to our field will continue to have a substantial impact on the department for years to come.

We remember Arthur as a man possessed of formidable intelligence, energy, and insight, interested in a wide variety of subjects, with a deep love of life.  Issy was elegant, yet unpretentious, with a delicious sense of humor and a warm, affectionate personality. Both Arthur and Issy Dellheim will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
